Ideally you'd want to charge the iPod full first (takes a couple of hours using the USB connector) then use until drained. Repeat this cycle about 3 or 4 times and your battery will be "conditioned." Regularly using and charging your iPod will maintain the battery's lifespan. If you use and charge it sparsely, chances are the battery will lose its lifespan

is that true? that for initial charging you should overcharge it? i believe once an OEM battery is completely charged, it's good to go, no need to drain even. it's what modern technology has to offer, take advantage.
This happens. This is an anagram.

When full, it's full. No need to overcharge (cuz it won't). Just calibrate it once a month (fully draining and fully charging).

Until it's full, if it is fully drained as of now, you need to charge it for 3 hours.

Yup, the iPod will not overcharge. If it detects that the battery is full (again, this does not take longer than 2 or 3 hours with the USB connector) it will bypass charging even if still connected to a power source.

So the answer to your question, imaprincess, is just charge until full, use the iPod as long as you like (you get quite some mileage even if the battery indicator is red na) then repeat. "Red" is a good point to start charging. No need to get too OC and wait until it's totally empty
