iNdependence 1.4 (beta) released
It's finally here. Version 1.4 beta.
There's still a few kinks to work out, but overall it works pretty well with phone firmware 1.1.3. I even managed to update the documentation a bit. PLEASE NOTE You must run iNdependence from your hard drive. Do not run it directly from the .dmg file.
See the CHANGELOG and the README for details about this release. UPDATE: Report issues you're having with 1.4 beta on the Beta14KnownIssues page (make sure to check for duplicates).
EDIT:
I personally prefer this, no Installer.app and SSH was successfully installed.

Re: iNdependence 1.4 (beta) released
When I initially had package download failed error messages right after updating to 1.1.3, jailbreaking, activating, and unlocking through ZiPhone OSX 2.2, I thought of using Independence to install SSH and perhaps a less buggy version of Installer. Interestingly, Independence 1.4 did not recognize my phone as being jailbroken... It only showed that the phone was activated and unlocked. Odd. I did not want to risk another jailbreak through Independence so thankfully I was able to solve the package download failed error and I was good to go. The phone WAS indeed jailbroken so I wonder why Independence did not recognize that. :slanted:

Re: iNdependence 1.4 (beta) released
its a bug since iNdependence is still on beta and discussed here.
"If a phone has been previously jailbroken with ZiPhone, iNdependence will say that it's still jailed. The reason for this is because ZiPhone does not create the AFC2 service on the phone. The AFC2 service allows computer-based applications to write to all areas of the phone (not just the Media partition). So really, ZiPhone only jailbreaks for applications which run on the phone itself (not applications which run from the computer)."

Good to know. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, antz88c

Re: iNdependence 1.4 (beta) released
UPDATE:
Feb. 22/08 - iNdependence 1.4 beta 3 is out. This version works with iTunes 7.6.1 (and earlier). I had hoped to get more bugfixes in, but I had to release this new version quickly due to the iTunes 7.6.1 update problem. The only other major change in this release is that it has better error checking during the RAM disk creation stage (and a nice progress bar). See the CHANGELOG for more details.
