Default I cant receive SMS in my iPhone

    hi guys,

ive been playing with my new iPhone for the last 4 hours and i notice that have not been receiving SMS. to confirm my suspicion, i transferred back my SIM card to my Treo 680, lo and behold, all my SMS messages for the last hours came in.

aside from this SMS weirdness, everything seems working fine with my iPhone.

    can somebody please help.

btw, i followed the modmyiphone methodology.

    thanks for the help.

that's just one of the issues that the modmyiphone method can bring. You may need to have someone rewrite the baseband. PM mr for info as to who to call for help. Your iPhone can still make calls naman, diba?

I encountered someone (bump and had a simple tete-a-tete in one Apple store here in my location) with the same issue like yours. He told me that it was mainly due to the telco you're using. He told me that he used to hacked his iPhone and later found that he can't receive any sms, rather all outgoing in which he believe as a glitch for using a certain telco(Vodafone)). He told me that if I should hack my iPhone he suggested that I should rather use the other service provider(Batelco), but I can't really shift unto the other line, all of my business transactions heavily relies on that existing no. I hacked my phone and opted to use my existing simcard.(MTC Vodafone). He later called me and told that he's iPhone has a defect. I also told him that I managed to unlock using my current sim and got no problems at all, incoming and outgoing of sms. I am afraid to say that there's something wrong with your unit. I really wish it's not. Hope everything will turn up well regarding the problem with your iPhone. I hereby conclude(based on my experience) that it's not the telco that affects the incoming and outgoing of sms. I think, I've read/tackled regarding that issue in one of the iPhone threads here.

So what happened were you able to fix the problem? Maybe you can share the simple steps you made.

You can do a firmware restore but you'll also have to make sure to revert the baseband as well. Reverting in iTunes does not restore the baseband

Psynic is right. The iPhone is essentially two parts: a computer and a phone. An iTunes restore will take care of the computer part. That's the easy stuff (remember, it took only a few days for DVD Jon to break into it).

The phone part is the one that's very complicated (remember, it took about 2 months before George Hotz found a way to do it). In fact, rewriting the firmware, known as the baseband, is very sensitive. A number of things can go wrong during the process. If not done properly, one of the phone's functions might not work at all (i.e. outgoing or incoming calls, earphohe sound, mic, outgoing or incoming SMS, etc.). In the case of jha, it's the SMS part that wasn't written well. For it to work again, the baseband will need to be rewritten, and it's not an easy task. I'd ask a real programmer to do it. I wouldn't dare tinker with that as I might make it worse.
