How do I keep my mail in GMail when I delete in Mail?

I've toyed around with the iPod Touch Mail app using my Gmail account. But each time I delete an email it gets deleted on the server too. I want to keep it in the server. I've tried delete on iPod as well as delete on Gmail. Both deletes on the server.

gmail usually just archives the mail. try checking all mail.

otherwise go to settings-forwarding and pop/imap-pop download then select if you want gmail to keep in inbox, archive, or delete
