Default Hope for 1st and 2nd Gen iPods with \'dead batteries\'

According to a report on Applelinks, reviving dead or near-dead batteries of 1G or 2G iPods may be a simple matter of cracking them open and disconnecting and reconnecting the batteries. Pods that typically held only 4 minutes or less of charge suddenly work fineand run for hours.

    More details at Applelinks.

I have a 2G iPod, although it still is perfectly working I anticipate the battery to quit on me one of this days. The question is would an iPod with dead battery work if it is tethered to a Mac? Juice would come from the firewire connection, di ba?
