What's wrong with answering questions on the forum where other people can also see the solutions if they run into the same problems?

Nothing, is there anything wrong about offering another form of help? Im not so sure what your trying to instigate.

I'm not trying to instigate anything, I'm just wondering why so many people feel the need to keep the dispensation of their advice to a one-on-one session. Message boards are helpful because they are a repository of questions and answers, which means people don't have to ask the same question more than once or, for that matter, rely on the availability of someone willing to answer questions personally.

Well you are mistaken then, because it's not a need for me to dispense my advice to a one-on-one session. If that was the case, I would have not answered any questions in this forum. As I've mentioned, I wanted to offer any assistance I could, on top of answering posts here.

No need to respond to this post. Just PM me so we don't go OT.

Forums are helpful and all, but they're slower. Sometimes, some users need help in realtime. I try helping some people using IMs as well. Yes, the troubleshooting methods are helpful if they're posted in forums.. but chances are.. they are already posted. It's just that some users in need of help aren't familiar with troubleshooting, so they don't know which solutions (from the forums) are applicable to them.

I understand quietcynic's point. However, 48check is not out of line with his offer. There are times when an individual seeking help would rather approach a PhilMUGger directly in fear of being ridiculed. Sometimes, he or she require a dedicated level of support (needs spoonfeeding - I didn't want to say it, but sadly it's true). 48check is merely opening an avenue for these individuals. It' is up to them to take him on his offer.

hmmm... i think 48check's offer is for people who wants a fast response at that time of the day. He has got free time on his hand and just wants to help out.

I appreciate offers like this even though I didnt have any questions. He's just willing to help without any demands.
