Default help: stolen laptop, ipod sync issue (was help:stolen laptop-synch issue)

i'm not really an ipod user so i thought of asking my fellow mugers for help.

my bro's laptop got stolen a week ago, he has been using his ipod 80gb to backup some of his files and photos.

is there away to get to download this files? he told me that once i plug it in my laptop it would erase all the files in the ipod.

    thanks in advance.

not necessarily. upon initial sync between a computer and an ipod, the user's prompted if ipod/itunes updates are going to be manual or automatic. if you've set it to manual, you should be fine.

deepdiver: the first question to ask, was the ipod formatted using a mac or a pc? if you are trying to access the files from the ipod, are using a mac or a pc. i tried accessing my mac-formatted ipod via pc and pc cannot read the files i saved in my ipod.

    i am no expert though.

the ipod should be working as an external drive, so yes you should be able to download what's inside...

you don't need to go thru itunes if the ipod is used as an external storage device. search for the external hard drive at my computer when using a pc and the ipod will appear on your desktop when using a mac. hth.
