did you see it coming?
I was wondering.
Have anyone noticed the slew of 'new' phones with 'high tech' features such as the 'touch screen'?
Before iphone came into the scene, most cellphones with touch screen were using stylus for input (think p900) but now almost all phones with a touchscreen uses nothing for input but your fingertips.
The HTC phone with the Android firmware is a little like the iphone. It uses swipe, automatically tilts to landscape mode, etc...
This brings me to my question, If apple didn't introduce the iphone, would the mobile industry thought what apple did? touchscreen without stylus? I'm not informed in this area, so can someone please correct me if apple wasn't the first to come up with the idea.
Can anyone imagine the mobile industry without apple's iphone? Im assuming that we would be stuck with our touch screen devices with stylus.
As Steve said on he's speech when he introduced the first iphone, "stylus? e yuck!"

Re: did you see it coming?
A possible reason why this is happening right now is Apple was able to show to other manufacturers that this implementation of the touchscreen technology is possible and certainly profitable.
Quad Core Mac Pro | MacBook Pro
D700 | D7000 | 20mm f/3.5 AI | 50mm f/1.4 AIS | 50mm f/1.4G | 24-70 f/2.8G
Nikon SB-700 | Nikon SB-600x2

Talk about a stylus-less input had been going around amongst smartphone users long before the iPhone went out. It was just wishful thinking though - sort of like users hoping Windows Mobile support gestures and other things especially one-hand operation of Windows Mobile PDAs for example.
When the iPhone came out, some WinMo users were disappointed with Microsoft and the OEMs that it would have to take Apple to prove to them that there's more room for innovation with input technology. Of course, not a lot of people predicted the multi-touch Apple iPhone offered.
It wasn't called "Jesus Phone" for nothing

I think what differentiate our dear iphone from other touchscreens is the speed.. the smooth navigation.. no laggs and the concept of the true "touchscreen" tactile interaction.. the psychological effect of "feeling" the flesh controls the machine something like that..
uhhh I think I went way beyond.. irrelevant.. hehehe

but those phones with stylus-less input was not meant to be used that way right? I mean you can use your phone with or without the stylus but it was made with the intention of the manufacturer to use it with a stylus.
Years ago as I was using my P900, I often lose my stylus. Sometimes i get lazy and use my fingers instead but it was very awkward to use it.
Then apple came everything changed, touch screen phones with stylus-less input.
I couldn't imagine a mobile industry without Apple.

Darn correct! accurate description.
Smooth, no lags. And it even responds when you reach the end of screen and your fingers still swiping by showing a blank screen.
Apple's innovative idea with the touchscreen. Love it.

I think this credit goes to the DS.
Having said that, I think Apple and DS showed to the world that touchscreen is the next big thing.
(DS reigns supreme over the PSP)

Re: did you see it coming?
yeah! another thing I like is the way Apple's usability analysts made the iPhone the best user friendly device.. imagine.. how many among you bothered checking out the bundled "user manual" (or if its a user manual at all) out of the box after unpackaging??
honestly I didnt bother! its like I saw an alien spacecraft hop in to it and after a few minutes of marvelling its superb engineering im off navigating alpha centauri to zeta reticuli to check out the "grey's" homplanet and back to earth and having no problem handling it..
