Default Converting Videos/DVDs to be iPod-friendly

It takes too long for QT Pro to convert .MOVs and .AVIs to iPod-friendly videos. Try it - it's unbearable even for 10-minute clips.

I'm not buying a 5G iPod until either of the two situations occur:

    1) a 5G hack to play .AVIs and .MOVs comes out
    2) iPod-friendly .M4V and .MP4 formats become ubiquitous on the Net

Sorry, but I'm not going to spend days, even weeks, to convert all my video clips just so that it may be viewed on a 5G. I'll just get the Creative player instead even if it costs $100 more.

I tried to simply drag some of my converted .mpg files directly to iTunes and it was "automagically" imported into the "Videos" playlist. Since these are direct rips from VCDs, I'm not sure if the 5G iPods will support/play these. These .mpg files were ripped from VCDs using VCD Copy 1.1 and then converted using ffmpegx 0.0.9t, which, BTW has options to convert to *any* size needed.

Same thing here. I drag the Smallville Season 5 Trailer mpeg format to my playlist and it's part of my Videos folder. Too bad avi format is not supported...yet.

    @ mchammer
You can use Toast Titanium 7's export command or the free ffmpegx:

I have tried several encoding as referred from this site but when I tried to play, an alert pops out of my screen saying "QuickTime cannot open the file: "best kept.aac.mp4"
it is not a file that QuickTime understands (-2048)".
I also tried dragging it to itunes but it cant be done.
Any of you guys have successfully made the conversion?
