To Buy or not to Buy??????

first and foremost, i am a mac user for a few months now and am very happy with my life having a macbook beside me... however when the Iphone came out thats when the problem started, i instantly connected with the iphone and to exagerate things i fell inlove with it... at this stage i am contemplating to get my self an iphone, however before i do get one ( which i am very much eager to do so)i would like to ask a little advice from anyone who is willing to give...the problems are as follows:

1. if i am to get an iphone it would come from the US becuase my dad is going to buy it in there, the problem is, iphone comes with plan which would cost them 59.99 dollars a month for two years if they are going to send the phone here in the philippines, what am i suppose to do with the at&t plan?considering that it cannot be use here.

2 if i do get one how do i unlock it in a safe way?

3.i am from iloilo do you think it would work here?

4. i wanna use a smart simcard, is it possibel?
that is the problem right now... i am hoping for a quick response from anyone who can give an advice....any advice can also be forwarded to this number 09198885010

To sum it up, you don't need to activate with AT&T... there are many ways to unlock the phone, but note that they will void the warranty... and yes, you can use Smart Simcard.

in case all else fails.....(after you start using the search function)

1. buy it from the apple store
2. activate/jailbreak/unlock it here when you get it....either by yourself with the help again of the search function, or by some other person..(either a fellow forumer or someone with experience unlocking iphones)

***just make sure the phone that you're getting is not on firmware 1.1.3 <--while that's not officially out yet there is some speculation that it might be out very very soon

my two cents worth...
wasn't really keen on getting the iPhone because of so many issues surrounding it (almost got a treo)
BUT, after getting my hands on the iPhone, i can now say that this IS probably the best cellphone i've had in years!

If you buy from the apple store, do you need to get the AT&T service or you can just buy the unit alone without gtghe phone service?
