Apple New Service Policy for the iPod
I have cross-posted this over at PodCentral:
For several security reasons, Authorized Apple Service Centers (regionwide) will require each warranty claim with an authorized store receipt from an iPod Authorized Reseller (whether its a sales invoice or delivery receipt - complete with the buyer's essential info like address and telephone numbers). They will only process the service request, if the service requirements are complied.
In case you're planning to buy an iPod as a gift, kindly request the store to issue an additional delivery receipt (without any price indication solely for this purpose). This might be of any inconvenience for now, but will be a big help in protecting your interest in the future.
In short: Better keep those receipts!

Out of curiosity but how does this differ from other warranty claims? My experience is no receipt no warranty.

Thanks for the headsup. I wonder if I have any of my contact details on my receipt. If I recall correctly I don't think I have them on there.

@tweek
There are iPod owners that used to carry their defective iPods to the Apple Service Centers without any receipts (and the process will only be entirely based on its serial number). Right now, the regional support group of Apple has advised them to strictly implement this policy (otherwise no replacement would be rendered).

Do they practice the same policy abroad, particularly in the States, or is this just a regional thing for us? I'd hate to think that Apple feels that we don't deserve the same customer assurance privileges as our Western counterparts whenever we buy the same things.. at a HIGHER price at that.
I may have to read that AppleCare contract again..
