apple earphone questions

two apple earphone questions for you folks:

1. are the white earphones that come with the ipod covered by warranty? i think i got a paid of duds. i got my shuffle yesterday from digital exchange and everything was working and sounding just fine until today when, walking around the megamall with the shuffle playing, the sound just went "basag"--you know, where the bass turns into a noisy crackle, like someone opening a packet of chips in the movie theatre. i tried everything--resetting the plug, looking for tears in the wire, etc. nada. this thing was pristine, less than a day old! i confirmed that they were bad when i went home and tried my daughter's ipod earphones, and my own in-ear earphones--sound was fabulous. back to the shuffle earphones--basag again. can i get these replaced by bringing my receipt? (the earphones have no serial number, of course)

2. if i wanted to replace them with a better pair, something not too expensive, and preferably in apple white (except the in-ear apple ones, which i already have and my kid uses), what can i get?

I'd say try to return them right away while they still look pristine. It also gives the reseller less reason to doubt a buyer.
I hope you have them replaced.

Replacing them should be no problem, i got mine replaced after 8 months. same problem... 8 months after i got my iPod the left earphone was acting up. went to apple center Greenbelt. got it replaced no questions asked. took 7 days though.

saw some japanese earphones at games and gadgets in theater mall at greenhills. couldnt make out the brand coz all the labeling was in japanese but they sounded great, better bass than the apple ones! they're white too.

Yup. The earphones will be replaced without any questions. I helped pick up iBug's replacement phones from a dealer last year when her existing one conked out.

doPi, would you remember how much you bought them for? Were they in the 1,000 peso range? And were they comfortable in the ear, coz the ipod earphones can get a little painful after prolonged use.

im interested too in changing my earphones cuz the white apple earphones just screams "HEY! I got an iPod, Mug me!!!" :wound: i'm looking into the ones they sell in those music stores at least even if they see the earphones i won't be the main target hehe :P

They were 990 when i bought them a couple of months ago. Dont know about the current price because they are becoming more popular, last i heard they were 1,100. i also get quite irritated with in ears, but these were really comfortable.

i dont use my apple earphones a whole lot, these days i use Sennheiser pmx60's they're behind the neck wrap arounds and they sound 500 times better than the stock apple earphones.

An official representative of Apple confirmed this--yes, the iPod earphones are covered by warranty. it will be replaced with new, original iPod earphones.

Although the following screen cap is taken from the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPod page, it enumerates the standard warranty coverage.

same thing happened to my apple earphones a couple of weeks back.. what i did was that i blew on it, when that didn't work, i did it in reverse. the said pair of earphones have been in perfect working condition since.

in my case, i think the minute 'cones' got crumpled or may have gotten misaligned thereby producing the ugly and irritating crackling sound. blowing on them (in reverse!) snapped them back to place, i guess.

you may want to try at your own risk though.
