Default Activating EDGE on Globe Telecom

I have a first generation iPhone running 2.2 software with a prepaid Globe Telecom SIM in it. I'm trying to get EDGE to work on my iPhone, but when I open up a web page on Safari, it tells me I'm not subscribed to EDGE. I browsed the forums earlier and saw instructions on how to do just that but those instructions apply only for older iPhone firmware versions. So, my question is, how do I get EDGE to work on my iPhone?

    hey, welcome to philmug!

you are on fw2.2 on an iPhone 'classic' with a globe sim? fire up Settings and follow the guide below. good luck!

    (1) settings> general> network> cellular data network
    (2) APN should be "internet.globe.com.ph" (no quotes)
    (3) leave the rest blank

for prepaid, the APN is : http.globe.com.ph

this works for some but not all prepaid SIMs. depends on the date of issue of the sim. some prepaid sims require a proxy hack to enable the data network. But do try the APN posted above.

Thanks a lot. I am on prepaid, so I'm kind of confused. Which APN should I use, http.globe.com.ph or internet.globe.com.ph? I bought the Globe Starter SIM or whatever it's called sometime last year; does that work or do I need a proxy hack? By the way, I've updated to 2.2.1 so do these settings still apply with this new version? It's only a minor update after all.

For prepaid use the following settings:
    APN: http.globe.com.ph
    username: globe
    password: globe

The "internet.globe.com.ph" is for postpaid users.

Thanks a lot. Will these settings still work if I leave the username and password blank?

I tried the settings posted by aragorn_109 but to no avail. I launched Safari but after like 20 seconds, it said the page had timed out. Not only that, when I checked how much load I had, what little I had left, 10 pesos, was eaten up completely! Now what?

The fact that Globe debited your prepaid load means your EDGE is working. You were probably on a "per Kb" browsing mode, and the page you were trying to load contains lots of data. I suggest you shift to browsing on a "per time" basis by texting TIME and send to 1111. Then Globe will charge you 5 pesos per 15 minutes.

Actually, I was on TIME browsing and I was trying to load Google.
