5G iPod Video Categories/Playlists
Help requested from the iPod/iTunes experts here.
Two main questions.
Firstly, is there some secret to adding more video classifications/playlists in the Video category of iTunes?
I can't seem to figure it out. I'd add one but it just appears in the main list of playlists in the left panel of iTunes. It doesn't appear as a subcategory when you are in the Videos portion. There's no "+" button or anything for it.
Yeah, I can make a playlist comprised of videos only but it just appears like a normal audio playlist. I'd like my categories in there with the default ones in the video section. And apparently there is nothing in the menu to create a new category/playlist for video.
Secondarily, is there some secret to putting the files themselves into the existing (limited) categories of the Video section of iTunes (Movies, Music Videos, Video Podcasts, TV Shows, etc.)?
I rip and encode different kinds of videos for my 5G (DVD movies, TV episodes, music videos, trailers, documentaries, concerts, etc), but even if I drag them to their supposed category, they all just go into the 'Movies' section, regardless of where I drag them originally. It's frustrating. My Movies window in iTunes is a mad jumble of all sorts of different kinds of video content.
I'm guessing there is some MP4 tagging convention I don't know about that makes iTunes put the video files in their proper place. When I make my own, there isn't a tag that identifies the file (unlike the ones I buy or download from iTMS, which go to their proper cubbyhole right away - damn them) so they're all just dumped into the Movies category regardless.
If there is such a tagging thing, how does one tag a video file to classify it as a movie or a music video or a video podcast or whatever, and with what application?
Or then again it could be something else entirely.
Any help would be appreciated.

(Is that Windows, Kenneth!?!?)
Yeah, I think I missed that. I remember I could change tags for MP3s, but for videos I didn't think I could do it. And yeah, just two categories? Hmm indeed.

Re: 5G iPod Video Categories/Playlists
If you update to the latest iTunes, they've added the "TV Shows" category.
EDIT: Really? Odd. I'm running iTunes 6.0.4 (3) on my mac and I have the "TV Shows" category.

Gackk! Not reading! (I was sorta wondering what you meant by using the latest version.)

Yes, the TV Shows category is already there. But if you get one of your own (non-iTunes) and try to put it there, it won't go. At least in my setup. All homebrewed files go straight to the Movies category.
(Maybe you were just sleepy. After all it was early in the morning.)

Re: 5G iPod Video Categories/Playlists
I kinda have the same problem...
I was able to put my TV show files in the right category in iTunes.. However, in the iPod there is no TV Show category in Videos (only Music Video, Video Podcasts and Movie).. Hence, for me to play my TV shows.. I have to go to Video Playlists > Recently Added.
Any solution on this? Adding the TV Show category in iPod?
Thanks :-D

Re: 5G iPod Video Categories/Playlists
Its your iPod firmware. I'm running ver 1.1.1 and it works fine. When I click on videos on my iPod, all 3 sub-categories are there (Movies, TV Shows, Music Videos). I have no iTMS bought videos. All non-iTMS videos are in their appropriate category as I assigned them. As for the other categories, looks like only iTMS bought videos can get in there... at this time, maybe till next firmware update.
