Default USB 2.0 PCI card for Apple G4 Quicksilver

    Folks,

Any idea if USB 2 cards sold at PC stores are compatible with Apple G4 tower?
    Any feedbacks? Thanks.

I'm not an expert, but in my very limited experience they don't really work. I've tried a couple of made-for-PC no-name cards and one of them didn't work at all, and the other just ran at 1.0 speeds.

Last year I bought a McAlly USB2.0 adapter card made for Macs and it runs as advertised on my Quicksilver tower. My USB 2 gadgets just zip along almost as fast as if they were on firewire. Updating my iPod using USB2 is as fast as using the FW cable. Another bonus is that it adds two extra FW ports on the Mac.

Hm. I think if you really want to get USB 2.0 on your Quicksilver, you can't be a cheapo. Besides, Macs deserve better, don't you think?

Aside from Macally, Sonnet makes a nice one.

You could also try Adaptec's USB 2.0 or combo card. I've had one before and it works great.

Got a generic USB PCI card. It had a VIA chipset and works without problems with my Blue and White G3. Will try to check out the brand and post the pics.
