Planning to buy a second-hand Power Mac G4. The seller's description says it only has a combo drive. Are there any current model SuperDrives I can install, or am I better off using a Mac-compatible external DVD writer?
the optical drive of the G4 is the same optical drive in PC's.
you could buy a DVD writer and it would work just fine.
also, the G4 model you bought is capable of 2 optical drives.

Was worried about OS/app support for generic DVD writers, though maybe that's more of a problem on an external drive enclosure's chipset. So I guess this would be overkill/wasting my money?
