From Tech Specs of New Apple Mac mini (Intel Core Duo):
- DVI video output to support digital resolutions up to 1920 by 1200 pixels; supports 20-inch Apple Cinema Display and 23-inch Apple Cinema HD Display; supports coherent digital displays up to 154MHz; supports noncoherent digital displays up to 135MHz
- VGA video output (using included adapter) to support analog resolutions up to 1920 by 1080 pixels
- S-video and composite video output to connect directly to a TV or projector (using Apple DVI to Video Adapter, sold separately)

Re: 1440x990 widescreen
short answer: should be yes..
intel mac mini max res:
vga: 1920 by 1080
DVI: 1920 by 1200
so both should be okay for your acer at 1440 by 900

Re: Resolution of Mac mini core duo (was 1440x990 widescreen)
Some people would be hard pressed to notice the difference between a VGA (analog) and a DVI (digital) connection. But I do. On lower resolutions and when watching movies or tv shows, they're probably going to be identical. But when working with high resolution, the difference will be more noticeable.
DVI is lossless. The color information gets through without any conversion, so it's clean and pure all the way through.
The difference between analog and digital video is very much the same as analog and digital audio. Depending on what you are playing, and on what the finished product is being played on, most of the time, especially to the untrained (eye or ear), they're just the same.
