    Default Printer [USB/PARALLEL]

    Hi,
I am TOTATALLY new to Mac world, the question may sound sooooo stupid:

I just got a iMac G5 and when I was about to plug my printer, I couldn't find a PARALLEL port

there is no parallel port in Mac or iMac G5?
Then ..., all printers should go to the USB?

    thanks a lot,

    tony

I haven't seen a parallel port on a Mac in quite a while. It seems to have gone the way of the floppy disk. Printers nowadays use USB anyway.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Mac. Yup, they usually connect by USB, which is far better than parallel port. They can also connect by firewire, if you have a firewire capable printer.

When I got my Powermac I had to lose the parallel port printer. In a way it was actually better because print technologies are improving constantly and cartridges are cheaper. My old Canon Bubblejet printer cartridge cost $35 USD. the printer itself was $120 originally.

My replacement was a free (after rebates) Epson All in One CX5400.

what's ur printer model, some old printer does have a solution, use a USB-to-parallel converter cable. but it will cost you about 1000 pesos. or u might rather buy a new usb printer.

most printer nowadays are USB. parallel ports are still being phased out, as most printer makers move to USB 1 and/or 2.
just check the interface if the printer has a USB and/or ethernet.

besides almost everyone is comfortable with wireless printing.
