is my g5 a lemon?
What's wrong with my g5? Or perhaps my apps? Internet connect hangs nearly every time it disconnects. it just keeps on disconnecting even when i quit the application and i can't use it again unless i shut down the computer and start it again. Soundtrack hangs when i open big files. Garageband hung on me just now when i tried saving an edited file. WHat is wrong? it's driving me nuts! Recently, a notice pops out whenever i shut down the computer that my home folder is using more space than necessary and that firevault has to recover it.
I think my pc gave me problems like these less often. To think that my G5 is barely two months old!

I hope you don't mind... What are the specs of your G5? Include the RAM please since I noticed in your post words such as "Big files" and "Garage Band" which really are memory hogs. Thanks.

Lemon = defective item.
From Dictionary.com:
"lem·on (1) A spiny, Asian evergreen tree (Citrus limon) widely cultivated for its yellow, egg-shaped fruit. (2) The fruit of this tree, having a yellow aromatic rind and juicy, acid pulp. (3) Informal. One that is unsatisfactory or defective: Their new car turned out to be a lemon."
@anina: Have you tried the usual first-aid stuff (repairing permissions, reinstalling the OS)? What are the specs of your machine?

try to remove the additional memory if any...
Repair your disk permission using the Disk Utility of the CD/DVD Installer...

maybe your additional memory is not compatible with the G5.

Please don't use FileVault if you don't need it. Basically, if you have no ultrasensitive files on your Mac, and/or you are its only user, then I strongly recommend that you turn off FileVault ASAP.

Don't rush to judgment. The vast majority of people have positive experiences with their Macs. Something is certainlly wrong with your system, but if it isn't a hardware flaw or compatibility issue, in other words if it's only a software issue, then it is relatively easy to fix. Back up data, reinitialize hard drive, reinstall OS and apps, restore data. Problem solved.

Given the seeming urgency of the matter, maybe a call to your supplier is warranted.
