    Hi guys.

I am looking for a 2nd mac for my house is it better to get a mini or an ibook? As i notice the mini's specs seems to be already similiar to the ibook?

Same here, comtemplating on buying another Mac, but don't know if I should wait for the MacIntel processors. Seems that Apple is stepping up the available basic options for both computers. Mac Mini's are said to be considered as portables too, which can be useful for office presentations.

I am thinking of getting my wife the new mini. My only concern is the price. If the prices (locally) of the mini and the Ibook would be similar, I might even opt for the Ibook.

The Mac Mini is cheaper by 10-20k:

    Base unit: 35k
    Samsung 510N 15" LCD monitor: 10k
Optical USB mouse at CDR-King: 0.3k
    Okion compact USB keyboard: 0.6k
    USB 1.1 hub: 0.3k

    Total: 46.2k

BUT even if it is sooo small don't delude yourself that it's luggable. Even within the house I find the task of moving the Mini (and the monitor, and the keyboard, and the cables...) to another table a chore.

My Mini setup is barely luggable: the mini + power brick + keyboard + mouse fills up my backpack; I will have to carry the LCD monitor separately if I want to do a presentation without having to borrow a monitor from the client.

Mini or iBook? I say, it depends.

I have an iBook because I like to take my work home. On the other hand, I'm considering mini for use at home for my daughter.

i say mini .. unless you plan to use to in more than one place.

cheaper pa. If you need to work with it in two different places then i guess pay more with a mobile ibook.

    2 cents,

Mini and iBook is not a fair comparison. iBook all the way.

If it were iBook vs. iMac G5 17" it might be worth talking about.

If price would be a factor.
Compare the mini's price to be bought here for the warranty.
As compared to the ibook if bought from HK since it has international warranty.

Add the price of the monitor, KB and mouse (if you plan to use apple brand) the price will be going up.Or even just eh KB and mouse still the price will be going up.

In terms of power. With the ibook even if there is brownout, you can still work. With the mini you cant.

Memory expansion, the mini is either 512 or 1 gig only for upgrades.
For the ibook you have already a base memory + 256/512/1gig option.

    Base it from there

since you already have an ibook, better get the mini.. of course, it's cheaper pa and would work almost as well as the ibook (sans the mobility)
