    Default iMac problem

    hey guys my iMac has a problem. it was doing ok awhile ago it read a dvd that i burned. then after sometime i try to insert a new dvd that i burned and it won't accept it. it doesn't want to go in the drive. anybody knows what i can do to fix this? do i need to take this to a repair shop already? it just wont accept it. i tried to to slowly insert it inside but to no avail it really wont go in fully and be read by the drive. any help?

    The DVD it keeps rejecting might be corrupt or dirty. Try it with different DVDs and see if it also rejects them.

    tried several dvds. it just won't go in. not being eaten by the drive.

    you might have something stuck inside... probably inserted by a toddler at your place...

    So you're saying that you can't fully insert any disc (DVDs or CDs)? You might as well take it to an authorized apple repair center to have it looked at.

    highly unlikely. it happened just about an hour after i inserted a dvd and it worked just fine.

    grrrr.... i was hoping to avoid this. i would need to back up tons of data before i can have it repaired. grrrr....

    i do lots of burning and ripping. this mac is around a year and half i think. is the drive really expected to die so soon? would you guys recommend me getting a new drive or maybe an external one? if ever the drive is irrepairable would the service center give me the option in getting and installing a faster and the latest model superdrives for the imac?

    since u do lots of burning, i suggest you get an external drive.... i dont really like the slot loading of macs

    are the effective speeds of external burners are as fast as their built in eqyuvalents? but is it ok to use the external burners also as readers often since my drive is busted.
