    Default imac g5 overheating

i've been pretty concerned with my imac g5's temperature lately particularly when i use fcp and garageband (you hear those fans blowing harder than usual). and because the cpu, harddrive and all the components are stuffed into the two-inch thick plastic casing together with the lcd screen, i decided to monitor my cpu and harddrive's temperature using ThermagraphX and Temperature Monitor.

while browsing for answers on the net, i also found this--

    http://xlr8yourmac.com/systems/iMacG5_cooling/imac_g5_cooling_fan.html#reports

i've monitored my cpu's temperature while using fcp, and it goes as high as 88degrees Celsius, even higher than the ones posted in the link. once applications are closed, temperature drops to as much as 20degrees. hard drive's temperature remains stable though between 56-58degrees C.

sometimes i just cant help but think that cpu will just melt through the lcd screen.

has anybody experienced overheating problems with their imac g5? or maybe somebody can recommend a better temperature monitoring software?

    ...just wanna dismiss my worries:no:

actually, i use my imac for video editing, and sometimes when i need to do hardcore stuff while rendering or something, it gives out that blowing sound that you were talking about. my imac is at the reseller ksi nasira yung LCD. it would cost 27,000 kung walang applecare. buti na lang i have one! i say ask apple about the hard blowing sound. better late than never.

try working on an air condition room. it might help.

at first, i was planning to buy imac g5 20 inch for FCP.

    natatakot din ako.

i thought at first i was just being paranoid, or maybe i was just being protective of my investment...

my imac still works great. lcd is still in perfect condition and no erratic cpu behavior so far, except for a few fcp crashes. i've addressed this by upgrading the memory. while doing some rendering (sometimes as long as 40mins), i see my cpu gauge hit it at 100% and temperature spikes to 20degress+C in less than a minute.

the aircon does help abit. but are there any other suggestions from seasoned mac users?

always work in a nice and cool environment. also never in a humid room. an airconditioned room will be a perfect environment for your iMac expecially during its peak hours of work with you. well lately it has been cold due to the rainy weather that will also aid in lowering down the temperature of your iMac.

check if your imac g5 power supplies is AC-Bell brand, Apple has identified the faulty power supplies as the cause of humming and buzzing noise when plug to 220v. You may need to replace its internal power supply...

try using CPU heat, it's a widget. my cousins and i use that to monitor the heat of our macs. My cousin has an imac g5, and i think he said that the normal temp is around 75-85..not sure though.:P

Mine has a problem like yours too. I had it check and akira was right. they have to replave the power supply. You can bring it to Diversitec.
