idvd burning on external writer
Has anyone tried this trick, burning in iDVD to External DVD Burners. Links in here and here?
Hey Marvin and Henjie have you tried this? If it does work I might use an external firewire case for my A07...
so I could also use it on my other Macs.

Ooops. Nagkasalisi. I just sent you a U2U regarding that very same hack. ;-)
And yes, the hack works. :-)

Hehehehe =) its ok Henjie, I'll try it once I got my case. They say the limitation is 'sympre' I can only use DVD-Rs... under iDVD
What I need today is fast iDVD encoding and writing. The writing part will be solved by the new a07 and a firmware upgrade. On the encoding part, either I get a faster computer (a G5) or find ways to make encoding faster... is there a way to make idvd faster?
Here's the dilema, I love the ready made templates on idvd, since most clients are now demanding dvds, I need to make production faster... The fastest way I see right now is to get a DVD recordable deck (which records to dvd format in realtime) but this is a direct transfer without the templates of idvd...
I want my G5!!!

If you use the hack to save your iDVD projects to .dmg files, you can then use Toast Titanium to burn the projects to DVD+Rs. ;-)

Yup, seems like you need a G5. Even the "old" dual-1.8GHz G5 will be much faster than your Quicksilver (and it's better, feature-wise, than the new dual-1.8GHz G5). :-)

Just wanna echo Henjie's reply that the hack indeed works on external DVD writers. Heck, you don't even need to have a DVD writer on your Mac to use it. Saving as a .dmg file also saves you the 4.4GB scratch file that iDVD requires before it burns the DVD. ;-)

I was able to save it as .dmg file and burn under Toast afterwards. Only problem is the iDVD4 template was gone in the final dvd video. It's just like a plain dvd transfer without the fancy iDVD main menus.
