Default External Cd Writer for iMac g3

i was wondering if anyone could point me into the right direction.

my slot loading blueberry iMac G3 does not have an internal cd-writer. someone is selling me an internal cd writer that came from another iMac G3, so it's second hand. i still find the price expensive (3K).

i'm thinking of buying an external burner, but here's my issue: my mac only has USB 1.0 ports.

    What will work? Thanks.

Any usb writer will work. USB 1.0 is about 12 MB/s... and if I remember correctly, a 4X DVD burns at about 5.7MB/s so you can still get the faster burns. You would only notice the speed difference when reading.

Haven't checked on the prices of external CD writers, but I should think that they are not that expensive since DVD writers are pretty cheap.

Dude, i have an external writer for my iMac G3 and its kinda slow. If you can make sure that the internal writer will work for your machine then by all means get the internal writer

That's very cheap, considering that a brand new slot load burner is around 10T from Apple, and a USB external writer will cost more than that and still be slower.

If you really don't want to get it, have the seller send me a u2u

Does your iMac G3 have a FireWire port? Could be an alternative.
