If you're buying a Power Mac G5, just order it with the stock video card (nVidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra or ATI Radeon 9600 XT) then replace the stock video card with the ATI Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition. Check this out. :-)

But if you're buying an iBook or a PowerBook, you get what Apple gives you. ;-)

Additional question, assuming you're getting a powermac, which video card is more supported by games? I get the impression that Nvidia is a safer bet than ATI...? More people have game issues with ATI...? I don't really know.

Also i hav this - Hightech ATI Radeon 9200SE - laying around that my uncle gave me supposedly for my pc but had no use for it coz my mobo doesnt support its 64bit mem interface. now i know this is now comparable to even the stock of a pmac g5 right? now why m i asking

i've had a number of Nvidia cards and a few ATI's already albeit, mostly for the PC.
i've never had issues with a single one. But if you're talking about high end cards, namely the X800 for mac/pc (or the X850 for the pc) and the Nvidia counterpart, I'd rather go for the X800.

    1) ATI uses less space, Nvidia's new card uses up 2 slots.
    2) Nvidia's new card needs 2 power supplies, ATI just needs one.
    3) ATI's card costs $100 USD bucks less.
    4) ATI has a slightly higher lead in term of power via numerous tests

ez_stylin, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that will work with a mac. You may have to flash firmware to make it work. Usually there are mac and pc versions of video cards.
