Pretty good specs. 8x DVD-R burning for the SuperDrive model. I wonder which drive Apple used (Pioneer? Sony?) and whether it's also capable of burning DVD+R/RWs.

On the G5's its's the Sony drive... Current Pioneer A07 writes at 8x DVD-R, if I'm not mistaken.

    I hope it's Pioneer...

Apple used both Sony and Pioneer (DVR-106D) drives for the G5s.

The listed specs for the 8x SuperDrive used in the new eMacs are kinda weird though. They don't conform to the Pioneer DVR-107D specs. Actually, they don't conform to the specs of any 8x burner out there. Unless the listed specs found here are incorrect, it seems like the 8x SuperDrive's a bit "neutered" (I'm guessing a neutered Pioneer DVR-107D since that's the only drive with built-in support under Panther):

    8x SuperDrive on eMac:
    8x DVD-R; ? DVD-RW; 10x DVD-ROM; 24x CD-R; 10x CD-RW; 32x CD-ROM

    Pioneer DVR-107D:
    8x DVD±R; 4x DVD±RW; 12x DVD-ROM; 24x CD-R; 24x CD-RW; 40x CD-ROM

NEC ND-2500A (the one I have right now):
    8x DVD±R; 4x DVD±RW; 12x DVD-ROM; 32x CD-R; 16x CD-RW; 40x CD-ROM

    Lite-On SOHW-812S:
    8x DVD±R; 4x DVD±RW; 12x DVD-ROM; 40x CD-R; 24x CD-RW; 40x CD-ROM

    Weird. :-)
