    Default yeeehah! it\'s alive!!!

i don't mean to be blasphemous--especially today!--but easter came early for me, or i mean, my 2400c powerbook, which had been comatose for exactly 51 weeks. 2400c's are beautiful machines but notoriously vulnerable to the so-called "green light of death" or GLOD, where the sleep light just glows green... and glows... and glows.... and glows. thanks to a logic board from ebay and a new pram battery for good measure, i spent most of today dismantling and reassembling the beast (about 40 screws! was taking pictures all the way, just so i'd know where everything was; i've dismantled this many times before, but never this completely). unfortunately i installed the logic board and the new pram battery together, so i won't know if only one or the other was at fault, but what the heck.

once it was put back together, came the moment of truth. power on--nada. then i remembered the reset button at the back--chungggg! (here, play beethoven's "ode to joy.&quot when i checked, the last document on it was dated april 17, 2003.

system 9.1, 180 mhz, 80 mb of ram (ram-doubled to 160--remember ram doubler?), 18 gig hd. sweet! this used to have a wireless pc card... hmmm, don't worry, adel, i won't take it back.

to those who've never seen this baby (they were manufactured by IBM for apple and sold only in the US and japan from 1997 to 1998; the last, upgraded models sported a 240 mhz G3 processor, now ultrarare), here's a picture:

Congrats ser Butch on the successful operation! And while I'm at it, on this new, revitalized Philmug. Been having some problems accessing some pages though.

And just to whet your appetite on not so new macs, I was walking along Stanley Street here in HK and I saw me a 20th Anniversary Mac on display in one of the shops. Looked good, & it held its ground beside the other newer models.

thanks, yoyomar. yes, we're still having a few problems with the site--there are some threads that, curiously enough, we mods are having difficulty getting into. but all of these are natural teething problems, and they're very few, considering that this site was put together by nino in literally one day

as for the TAM, yes, i once saw a small row of them in one store in HK, where they seem to be something of a design collectible. would love to have one of those!

Good for ya, penmanila! 2400's are one of the best PBooks, imo, and I've always wanted one back then (I regret not having chosen to purchase it instead of the 1400c, but the 1400 has its merits). Anyway, I'm glad you've got your Book back. It's always fun playing with a newly revived Mac.
