will replacing the hard drive of an ibook void its warranty?
what kind/brand of hard drives are compatible with an ibook and how much do they cost? (at least 60G or higher) how much do i spend to have the hard drive installed?
on a related note, will the installation of additional memory void an ibook's warranty? how much does a 512mb and a 1G memory card cost, and what brands are compatible with the ibook?
thanks in advance for the info!
cheers.

depending on where you get the 60-gig + HD, maybe around 8K? (ditoy_eagle would know best--he sells them.) to get it installed, bring it to any apple center, or bring it straight to the apple center service place on p. guevara in san juan. they'll charge you about P1.5K for it, but it's well worth the money--opening the ibook is a pain, and YES it will void your warranty if you install the HD yourself.
you can, however, install RAM yourself without voiding the warranty, for RAM costs, do a site search (look for the search box upper right, and type in something like "512" or "1G"
. we encourage newbies to do a little research so we don't keep repeating the same answers--and you get a better education in macs

i got my ibook from a reseller... is it ok to have the HD replaced at an apple center instead of bringing it to the reseller?

Yes that is perfectly fine.

Apple Service Centers are the only ones authorized to conduct warranty service and repairs that do not voiding your warranty.
Resellers are only authorized to sell the computers. Resellers simply forward your machine to an affiliated authorized service center.
However, many resellers have attached service centers, e.g. Senco, PowerMac, LMK, Ynzal, Lightware. Having an Apple Service center means going through a separate training and certification program, but I would tend to favor service centers owned or staffed by people who have used Macs for at least ten years (e.g. those mentioned above).
I am a bit wary of some newer service centers whose ONLY Mac experience is having gone through the official Apple training course.
That said, there are many service providers that can provide excellent repair and speed hacks for older, out of warranty macs.
