The nuns of the Missionaries of Charity urgently need donations of Lysol disinfectant for their ministry work. Please click here to help them!
i usually put it to sleep if i'm gonna go back to it after a while. during the day on weekends i mostly just put it to sleep.
i shut it down when i'll be leaving it alone like when i leave my macbook and go to the office etc, or when i'm off to sleep. you don't have to do the drain then recharge old school thinking. (only once a month, read calibrating your battery).
i've also read that if you're using your computer for long periods of time, it's best that you just leave it plugged in, once it's fully charged, the macbook gets the power from the outlet and not from your battery.
that's what i know is best for the battery.
hope this helps.
let it sleep.. that's what I always do.
@onefellswoop:
As long as it's plugged in while sleeping, your battery won't be using any power. So either one will work, it just depends on your personal preference. I dislike the time needed for startup, so I use sleep. The only times I shut down are when I'll be in transit for a long time or when I update software that needs a restart.
great! and here i was worried about "over-charging" the battery. this was really helpful guys, thanks!![]()
I think "overcharging" no longer applies to modern batteries. Laptops automatically cut off charging to the battery when the capacity is full. They then run directly off the AC power adapter until you disconnect it and start running off of the battery again.
What do you guys do: Do you keep your battery plugged the whole time you're using it or when its fully charged...you take out the plug and wait for it to drain then charge again?
I wanna know how I can preserve the battery of my mac.![]()
