    Default TiBook and Applecare

Would anyone know if the famous TiBook paint peeling is covered by AppleCare? TIA.

    hi myles,

I have recently asked the same question in one of the apple centres here. Their answer, no! Can't believe it either. They have told me that the issue is inherent of the material being used for the tiBook. Thus, it will naturally occur.

Another thread I read on this issue mentions being covered if the peeling is so severe like the first batch of the TiBook where the Titanium oxidised to make the paint buble and eventually chip-off.

Since your TiBook, I am assuming is still less than 2 years, most probably your machine, just like mine, experiences chipping around the corners nearest to your palms while using it. In this case, apple will say it is part of the usage and thus will not be considered as a hardware problem. I know, it sucks!

    Hi Myles,
Nope, the infamous TiBook paint peeling is NOT covered by AppleCare.

Also the "cure" is worse than the peel problem. A special paint available on the market for TiBooks is called "TiPaint" in a box containing both light and dark colors. The brush is like the cheap brush in a nail polish bottle and it doesn't matter if you substitute that with a sable hair brush either.

The paint dries fast while you are applying it, so unless you are dotting tiny bubble gaps, painting a whole swath of metal is a very bad idea. If you do insist on painting large areas, what you'll get is somthing that looks and feels like a very bad lumpy nail paint job. Hiring the best manicurista to attempt the paint job will still end up like a bad job.

So just ignore the peeling, grin and bear it.

Mine is way past two years, and Myles saw how BAD my TiBook is... both may chipping off and bubbles... nakakairita pero come to think how far my Precious have brought me makes me more sentimental and kick the idea of buying a new AlBook

Hmmm... ano bang pwedeng gawin... aside from sanding off the paint? Di ba delikado 'yung lilihain mo? Eh di, I need to remove the "insides" of my Precious if ever?

Siguro I'll save a few bucks and upgrade it na lang... or buy another one? Nah!!! Sobrang luho na nu'n di ba? 2 Powerbooks when I only have 2 hands and 3 1/2 eyes (I'm wearing glasses btw)... hehehe :P

I know exactly what you meant by "nakakairita"!!!! I am really pissed about it because I have bought mine a year after my wife got her Vaio (which she is not using anymore, got her to switch) and her Vaio still looks new and my TiBook which is actually more expensive too, is showing cracking of the paint and chipping. Grrrrr!

I would not sand it off anyway. I will let it be. baka ma koryente pa ko and it may also create static that may cause some short circuiting (I'm exaggerating)

Now you've mentioned it, so I am not the only one getting these nasty stings from the corner of my TiBook? Tama ka. Nakakagising and kung minsan nakakainis.

The TiBook's paint problems have become such a big issue in the TiBook community. I think constant bombardments has really raised the pressure on Apple the way they are serving TiBook owners. Like this guy

    TiBook Paint repaired by Apple

and here is a TiBook Paint problem link that everyone may find encouraging. We may need to do a concerted effort to get our TiBooks repaired for free.

My avatar is our new baby. Thank you for your compliments.
