Router choke

HI Guys i just bought a WRT54G ROUTER, my ethernet connection is working just fine but on wifi my powerbook is choking on safari.And i guess because my wifi is open for anyone who has a wifi card.anyone can use it, how can i solve this, i want my laptop to be the only user for my wifi not anyone else... pls help!.thx

three things you should do immediately
1. change the default network name and password
2. disable ssid broadcast
3. enable mac address filtering

later, you can enable wep or wpa security

Elton, I agree with Quicksilver that you are supposed to do all of the stuff that he listed, but have you narrowed down the issue that you are experiencing to a large number of users logging in at the same time?

You can actually check who the connected users are at a particular time from the admin site.

Just want to exhaust all possibilities that are contributing to the issue you are encountering.

Hi,

I use a WRT54G as well. I agree with quicksilver about the three things that you need to do. You may also want to update your router's firmware. The newer versions have added features that bolster your network's security.
