Just bought Apple Care for my powerbook today. I was advised by the merchant to register online here and to mail the document too to Apple Singapore.

i have a question:
If a mac is enrolled with Apple Care, but I buy a compatible(naman) dimm, install it in my system, and by some freak accident, it fries my entire motherboard, can I still claim repair under warranty?

Memory modules only draw power from the PSU (thru the mobo) so the risk of bad memory modules frying a mobo is pretty rare. In all my years of working with Wintel PCs (majority of which are of the chop-chop variety) and Macs, I've never heard of a bad memory module frying a mobo. Besides, your Mac won't even boot up if it detects any problem with the memory. ;-)
But to answer your question: yes. :-)

Fantastic. But I'll need that in writing. Some shops say otherwise, kasi. I wonder if it is a store to store policy, a Philippine Distributor policy, or a General Apple Policy.
Ynzal, for example, says that if you don't buy from them (the memory) and something goes wrong, you can't claim against their 3 year warranty. Hmmm

If it's a "General Apple Policy", then vendors like MemoryX, TransIntl and Other World Computing shouldn't be selling third-party memory upgrades for Macs. ;-)
The thing is, Apple allows you to install memory modules yourself (doesn't matter if the modules are Apple OEM or third-party modules). As long as you install the modules properly, the act will not void the warranty. Magkakaproblema ka lang if you didn't follow the instructions (printed on the manual) or got careless or whatever and break something in the process, siyempre voided na warranty nun.
Try calling up some of the other Phil. Mac resellers about this issue. Like you said, it could be a store-to-store policy or something related to that "extended 3-yr warranty na hindi naman AppleCare" promo na pinauso ng Apple Singapore. ;-)
