PowerBook dilemma
I bought my PowerBook just last Feb. It's a 15" PB 1GHz with combo and I also bought an APE. It cost me P126,500. I wanted the 12" one for more mobility so I could easily tuck it in my bag and bring it along in school BUT I chose the 15" because of the video ram and screen size (I wanted to watch movies on a bigger screen). It's still as good as new. I only brought it out of the house more or less 10 times since Feb, no scratches, with trackpad protection sticker, keyboard iSkin Protouch protected, padded sleeve, and since it's my first and only I treat it like a baby.
So on with the dilemma...
They released the new 12" PB which is a faster and smaller version of what I have now and it's $1599 (with APE). If someone would buy a laptop like mine it would be $1499, excluding APE. I'm planning on trading my current one in... just planning...e-mailing LMK (although I bought mine from Senco) and weighing things.
Go or No?

If you really need the portability afforded by the 12" AlBook and really feel that a 12" display is adequate, I'd say it's a go. Like you said, the new 12" AlBook is faster, and it's practically equal to a 15" AlBook in terms of features.
However, your current 15" 1GHz AlBook has two advantages: it's got a CardBus slot and a faster graphics subsystem.
I don't think you're gonna miss the CardBus slot though since the new 12" AlBook already has a built-in APE card.
As for the video issue, both have 64MB of video RAM anyway, although the Mobility Radeon 9600 is faster than the GeForce FX Go5200 in the new 12" AlBook. Again, not an issue if you're not a gamer. :-)
So yeah, chances are the advantages may turn to be non-issues after all. ;-)
BTW, if you're looking for somebody to sell your AlBook for you, Ditoy's your man. Contact him first before going to the Mac resellers if you want the best possible deal. ;-)

You said that you chose the 15-incher for its larger screen. If that's still the case, then I don't think you should go for a smaller-screen model, albeit with a slightly faster processor. I would stick with the one that you have until a future upgrade bumps up processor speed and features much more significantly.

just a suggestion.. try asking someone with a 12" book if you can use it just to check if you can adjust with a smaller screen.. hope this helps

the screen size for viewing isn't an issue anymore. i have a feeling the large screen laptops in our org room would be just vcd/dvd abused this school year. i wouldn't really want that...

personally, i wouldnt want to trade a 15 down to 12.. but i've friends who did.. (vic?)
plus i dont think you will notice any speed differences in the work that you do (student right?)
based on the info i gathered. the 12in 1.33ghz is retailed at around 117k while your al15 might still fetch a 90-95k, you will still need to dish out 20-25k for the new 12. not to mention you need to buy new accessories like pouch, sleevz, iskin etc..
though you will get more bag options if you go 12

I second the motion, BUTCH! Am waiting for the G5 PowerBooks as well before taking the costly-but-very-much-worth-every-single-peso plunge again.
