powerbook 165c
Hola philmuggers,
a friend of mine discovered a 165c among the stuff of a dearly departed uncle. anyone have an idea what this is worth? i suggested they trade it in for an i-book if they can get a good price for it. so i guess it depends on part availability and condition of the powerbook. will be glad to hear from anyone who has had any experience with the 165c. i have a 150, but am missing the power cord, among other things, but that's another story. thanks,
gerry

hi, gerry, that's a good find, but unfortunately it's not worth very much these days, considering that we can get (somewhat) newer powerbook 520s and 520c's for less than P5T each from our usual source in tandang sora and other places around the city. (by "we" i mean oldtime mac and powerbook enthusiasts--i have about a dozen, mostly SCSI-era powerbooks myself around the house.)
by the way, you might want to call our "suki" mel baizas at VCM Bytes on t. sora 435-1293 about that 150 of yours; he may have the part for it.
i suggest you keep that 165c as a backup. it will be prohibitively expensive to upgrade, even if you can still find the parts for it (like the proprietary RAM, or a SCSI 2.5-inch hard disk).

Hi GERRY!:
While researching for the prices online, came across this detailed review on the PowerBook 165c.
Far as prices go, this was the best I could find on
eBay.

hi! i have a 165c. i ued it for seven years, but now it's just gathering dust (actually the bag it's in is gathering dust) in a corner. even the installers and manuals are still in the box.
don't know how much it costs, but i think only collectors would buy it now.
good luck!

thanks for all the help guys. i shall forward replies to my friend with the 165c. i think the best solution is to pick up a new ibook or at least a good second hand unit.
