Portable Battery Lifetime

Does anybody know exactly how long the life of an Apple portable batteries last (how many years/months) before it requires replacement? According to a freeware app "Capacity Meter", my battery is still in "Good" condition but at the same time, it is at 77%. My iBook is around 15 months old and I'm contemplating on asking my brother to get me a new battery when he goes to the U.S. on the summer of 2005.

I also noticed that my iBook seems to consume juice even when asleep. I charge it fully but after an overnight "sleep" the battery will register around 88% capacity

Mine lasted around a year and a half. I noticed about 3 months ago it would die on me at around 45%! Would suggest you have one bought na, since they are much cheaper there anyway.
