Default need advice on pre-owned PB\'s

    Hi to all!

Is it advisable to get a pre-owned system? lets say a powerbook?

    Thanks,
    Cee

That would depend on the price and/or condition of the pre-owned item. But if you ask me... yes, it has been done with a lot of satisfied pre-owned mac owners who would swear by it. You just have to exercise prudence.
Post the model and the price of your prospective mac. Better post a picture and description of the mac's condition. People here can give you comparative pricing advice. Good Luck.

also buy from reputable resaler if its not from the original owner.. most well cared of powerbooks still have boxes, all the manuals, cables, even plastic bags..

you just have to act fast, most good deals here on philmug can be sold in a matter of minutes

My two cents...warranty/apple care coverage is vital for a notebook. I have had two powerbooks and both had display problems in less than a year. A broken notebook without warranty will almost cost as much as a new unit to fix if the broken part is the display, logic board...
The only time I would consider buying an off-warranty powerbook is if parts are available cheaply in the grey (ebay) market...and right now the titanium models are starting to have cheap parts available.

have someone knowledgeable check the unit out. does the cd/dvd drive work? does it go to sleep and wake up properly? does the lid close properly? what's the battery life? is it still covered by warranty (if not, the price should reflect it)?

having helped many friends buy used macs, and liek hungryalien, i'd advise you to have your cash ready--when these things come up for sale, they go very fast. first settle your needs and your budget, then go shopping.

Thank you thank you everyone for your posts.

I'm actually looking for a refurbished PBook G4/400MHz 15"/128MB/40GB/CD/DVD Titanium. Budget between P45-50k.

For that budget, you'll get much better specs than that.

Consider adding a bit more and you'll be able to buy a brand new iBook G4 with combo drive.
