Mini DV Problems
Greetings!
My cousin's hubby bought a PANASONIC GS-12 Mini DV and a separate firewire cable. The problem is he could not get his powerbook to recognize the unit. He wants to transfer the movies to his hard disk and burn as DVD... Any thoughts on this?
He already emailed Panasonic as well ...
Thanks and God bless! =)

Is it connected via a third-party Firewire cable? If so, did it come with any OS X-compatible software? If so, you have to install that because Firewire isn't supported as a standard by PV-GS12. You will also need that software because FCP 4.5 HD or any other FCP software version wouldn't natively recognise your camera.
You can try connecting the camera by USB instead (USB 2.0 is 480Mbps anyway, USB 1.0 is 12MBps). I can't guarantee that it would work with OS X but sure is worth a try.
According to the KB Articles I've checked on the Panasonic web site, only Windows is supported by this model, so you're going to need "conduit software" which assumptively could be provided by the cable manufacturer if they got it to work.
