ibook restarts with old settings

Hi newbie here. My wife's ibook is restarting with the old settings(settings when I got the ibook when it was new). After setting the trackpad, renaming folders and network, it restarts with everything at default. What's going on? I restart the machine then it goes back to the old settings. It even takes out the programs in the dock and turns off magnification.

you may need to reset the PRAM or parameter RAM of the ibook, which stores these settings. check this URL out for an explanation and for more links on how to do it:
