Default iBook & new hard drive

What will happen to my 12" 1ghz iBook if I install a 100gb hard disk? Will it fry the drive controller? Melt the power supply? Will a Apple reseller install them for me (I have APP)?

i don't see why there should be a problem. 100 gig HDs come with the new powerbooks. have it installed by apple center (their service center is on p. guevara in san juan); they'll charge you around P1.5K but you won't void your warranty, and you'll spare yourself a lot of hassle.

The P1,500 is not a problem... I'm just afraid they'll be careless and damage my iBook's casing or not put it back properly.

I wonder if they're going to complain about the third party RAM I installed? Apparently, in the US, some Apple service center will remove third party RAM, place it in a plastic bag, return it to the owner along with a nasty letter blaming the said RAM for the ills suffered by the Mac.

well, if you can't trust the authorized apple repair center, who can you trust? many of us have had the same job done by them without any problems---been there, done that. that's exactly why i recommend them, because unless you're very good at opening laptops (i was and i am--but the ibook is literally a different case), you WILL damage your ibook's casing. just take a look at all the takeapart guides online. in the worst case, you'll have someone else to blame if you have it done professionally.

they won't bother you about your RAM--unless, in fact, your ibook is having problems, in which case 3rd party RAM is a fair suspect.

but if you're just having your HD changed, they'll first check to see that everything's working, to make sure no new issues come up after the switch.
