    Default iBook Hard Drive Upgrade?

My brother is thinking of getting one of the new iBook G4s but they seem to come mostly with a measly 30gb HD. Is it possible to have this upgraded throught the local dealers and will the original warranty be intact?

Might not be applicable, but a few months ago, I was able to have my G3 "Chiclet" iBook's HD upgraded to 40GB at the Apple Center in Megamall for (i think) mga 12 thou...

It can be done, but since my warranty elapsed a long looong time ago, I'm not sure about the warranty issue.

Since your brother's thinking of getting one brand new, it may just be a good idea to have it Built-To-Order instead...

Good luck with the new 'Book if ever...

You can BTO (build-to-option) it to 60gig or 80gig and add a internal bluetooth (+$50). Ask your local reseller to add these before ordering it to the distributor so that the warranty is intact.

I would suggest getting a hard disk from any computer store and paying the Apple Service Center to change it for you.. I couple of months back I saw a post here that your local Apple Service Center can even do that for free.. That will be much cheaper.. Besides the warranty of laptop hard disks is good for 3 years.. I had my laptop hard disk changed 5 times for a span of 1.3 years, not sure if it was just my old laptop (COMPAQ PRESARIO 1722US) that was causing the hard disk breakdown.

    Thanks everyone!
Nice setup, Polar Mac. Did you have your HD upgrade done by a local dealer?

What's the usual brand of HDDs that work with an iBook?

    Any 2.5" HD should work.
