Default ibook getting hot during charging?

I noticed lately that when I charge my ibook G4 800Mhz the left side portion becomes warm to hot. (portion left of the trackpad)

Is this unusual? or an expected change as the ibook becomes older with me?
It does not cause kernel panics or problems while i use it.

It did not become hot like this before.

    thanks in advance

If that is hot, you should feel the charger (power supply), now that gets real hot specially when charging a spent batt.

In my 667 TiBook, the corner where the charger's connector plugs into the TiBook is always hot (i.e., a tad more than warm).

    Just FYI,

    Cheers

It is normal for the left part to get hot considering that's where the hard disk is.

My iBook just stopped working altogether. I noticed it getting hot middle of last week. By Friday, it kept hanging/freezing. By Saturday morning, it went into coma.

I'm bringing Maxine to LMK this afternoon. I hope everything goes well.

Question? Why does the power adapter get too hot at times? And how come the HD gets hot at times (not all the time) even if used approx the same lenth of time?

    Hi Dindin,

That little plastic square box is pulling a lot of amperes so it does get quite hot specially when your battery is low and you are working on your lappie.

I guess your hard drive gets real worked up when you are using some apps like iMovie, and/or Photoshop or even iPhoto... so it 'warms' up nicely together with your CPU too !!

Maybe your problems stem from that 'fault' inherent in iBooks which Apple is fixin' for free. Hope that is it !!!

    Cheers & Good luck

I'm not panicking as much as I thought I'd be... self-control. I jsut hope that should replacement be done, it be done quick. I need so many files that are in my iBook.

*keeping my fingers crossed* and toes, too!

Err... What fault would that be? If anything at all, plastic is a poor conductor for heat, and so unlike the PowerBooks, the chances of trapping heat inside an iBook is much greater. The exhaust fan on the sides does only so much, and the base can get unusually hot, with some users reporting of warped cases (both for the PBs and iBooks).

    thanks gino,

Even in normal use the left wrist-rest area will always be a tad warmer than the right. But following ergonomics, you shouldn't really be resting your wrists on the wristrest area while typing.
