How to care for Slot-Loading Drives?
Hi folks,
My slot loading superdrive has gone through two replacements in the past 2 months. and I know lots of other MUGgers have had their superdrives fail, get CDs stuck in them, etc.
Am I abusing my Superdrive? I don't think so!
How does one go about take care of them?
Also, I know this might sound a bit stupid, but is there a special way to insert the CDs? I just slowly push a CD in.
I also feel that slot loading drives simply aren't as reliable as tray-loading drives. During the 1.5 years I had my iBook, its tray drive didn't fail on me once! Why doesn't Apple switch back to using tray-loading drives? If it is a size issue, then why can IBM fit a tray-loading drive into their IBM T-series, shove a 14" screen and keep it the same weight (while lessening the height) as my Powerbook (4.5lbs) when Apple's 14" iBook weighs 4.9lbs?

really?!? slot-loading drives are really that 'vulnerable'? personally, i prefer this type of drive than the tray type for the simple reason that it is 'design-friendly' and for its uniqueness.

Make sure the CD's you insert are in good condition, not deformed, should be clean and free from any foreign materials. Carefull on using CD's with sticker label...
I never allow anyone to insert those cheap dvd's on my slot loading Albook

My PowerBook's Superdrive was replaced once, when it was around 8 months old. It didn't want to load any media, as if something was stuck inside.

Never push the cd in.. slide it in till you feel a slight amount of resistance.. then just give it a light nudge... it should grab the cd and pull it inside by itself
