powerbooks bought from the US carry the usual two-pronged plug; those from singapore carry the big three-pronged plug, etc. it also depends on what model of powerbook you got--sounds to me like you got one of those yo-yo adapters that were in use about four or five years ago; you should have a small white cube to go with your new powerbook.

if you google around ("powerbook adapters&quot you'll find slimmer and cheaper options from places like lind and madsonline.

    Hi Doc,

Simple reason is that all Apple stocks come from Singapore and those big humongous plugs are the British standard adopted in Singapore, Malaysia, Hongkong.

What is more, the Philippines is so small a market that all Pinoy re-seller requests for a U.S. style parallel blade w/ground has been rejected.

And that is the 'real politik' of it all !

Correct me if I'm wrong but I beleive all apple products sold in this region come with that bulky three prong plug (the ones used in HK, Singapore and Malaysia). Anyway you can buy a two prong one at your nearest Apple center, it was discussed on this thread.

to add... the reason why 3 prong yan is yung top part for grounding purposes... if I am not mistaken, you can just buy that part... so you can get the 2 prong plug type...

Or you can purchase the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit which is great if you travel a lot. The two prong thing is part of the kit.

You're talking about these, right? Yes, Michael is right, you can purchase the travel kit, or you can just go to Apple Center and buy one piece instead. Some call it the duck head adapter. I think Apple calls it the North American adapter. We get the UK version, as the Philippines is very much a minority in this region (doesn't make sense business-wise for Apple to pack a different box just for lil' old us). Continental Europe is bit smaller than the UK's or Australia's, but is pretty bulky as well.

Obviously, Mr. Ive designed the power brick with the No. American outlets specifically in mind.

if you also have an ipod, you can get that two-prong "duck" adaptor from your ipod charger cube and transfer it to your powerbook cube. but again, guys, i wonder if he wasn't given the yo-yo charger instead--why does he say it's bulky?

Wow Elbert you have a lot of them! I must actually get one for my Powerbook, though I am told it costs 650 a piece at the Apple Center. Butch, I got the cube charger but I still consider mine very bulky because I have to use a separate adapter (see my pic).

Everytime I think of adapters though I am saddened becuase my iPod adapter disappeared. Can't find it in the entire house. Thank God for firewire port charging!

Butch, the locally sold iPods come with the UK plug as well. I think he means the adapter and not the charger itself.

butcher, if you want really cheap, you could always go to your suking hardware and purchase an appliance cord. Normally, they retail for P20 to P40.
