help: ipod data transfer results in hanging my Finder

help please.

situation:

i used my friend's ipod to transfer files (7gigs worth) from my workstation to my powerbook. after a couple of gigs worth of transfer it suddenly stopped at a particular PDF file. its been at "copying 119 files to 'desktop'" for about 30min already. first i tried cancelling the operation but the 'cancel' button just kept on blinking.

i tried ejecting the ipod but i wouldn't let me.

tried restarting/logging off/shutting down but it requires me to shut down or cancel operations (which i can't)

anyway i'm considering force quitting Finder but an officemate told me not to.

PS: Finder seems ok but the copy window just won't cancel. how do i stop its operation?

Try to log out.

To prevent it from happening again, try to do multiple file transfers by batches most especially if you're dealing with huge files (300MB+).
