Default HELP! DVD stuck in slot drive

hi. i placed a DVD into the drive and wouldn't play. i decided to take it out but it seems to be stuck. everytime i press the eject button the laptop tries ejecting but wouldn't budge.

i turned it off and now its on and keeps on trying to eject the DVD but still wouldn't get out. its keeps ejecting every 15 secs.

    help please. ASAP

    i'm using a 12" albook.

btw i did a search in mobile macs and nothing came out.

Had the same problem once. I tried using another disc to pry it out... kind of dangerous, I know, but it worked for me. :wound:

Have you tried these tips from Mac Help?

Ejecting a disc when all else fails

1.) Choose Apple menu > Restart and hold the mouse key down until the disc ejects.

2.) Put the computer to sleep (using the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences) and insert a large, straightened paper clip in the small emergency eject hole of the drive (the location varies, depending on the drive). Push firmly until the disc ejects.

3.) Use Open Firmware to eject the disc if all other methods fail (this may not work on all computers). To use this method, you have to start up and briefly use the computer using Open Firmware, not the standard Mac OS X desktop. This is a simple procedure-try it if you're feeling adventurous.

To eject a disc using Open Firmware:

    a.) Restart the computer.
b.) When you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Command-Option-O-F keys. (The Command key has an Apple on it.)
c.) Release the keys when you see a white screen that says "Welcome to Open Firmware."
d.) At the prompt, type: eject cd
e.) Press Return, then wait a few seconds. The disc drive should eject the disc, and "ok" appears on the screen when the action is complete.
    f.) Type: mac-boot
    g.) Press Return

Your computer starts up normally and you see the familiar Mac OS X desktop.e:

The same thing happened to me a few months ago. If all else fails, take it to an authorized Apple service center and have them take it out. They can also check if there's damage to the drive and if it's still in warranty, replace it.

The lesson I learned: Make sure the discs are flat.

update: laptop works normally but there's this scary, weird sound coming from the slot drive every 20 secs. i think its the slot drive trying to eject the disc.

my theory: DVD could have been warped and wouldn't eject properly.

to everybody who replied: thanks for the suggestions. i 've tried the safer ones but finally resorted to bringing it to the techs.

i brought it to apple center but their technician wasn't available. i'll come back tom.

also since this is the first time i've actually brought it to an apple center for repair (?) how will the warranty be validated?

my mac was bought thru ebay and my tito gave me the everything (pbook, cords, CDs, manuals, etc) except the box.

    i've registered it online btw.

    am i doing everything right?

they can check the serial number for the build date. FYI, if you look at the serial number, for example V7349...., it means that it was built on the 49th week of 2003 (disregard first 2 characters). techs can usually honor warranty this way based on machine age, if you don't have your receipt. however, your mileage may vary based on the service provider...

sometimes when my disks get stuck, i restart and while i hear that startup sound and it's booting up, i press the eject button and it always comes out. so far that's never failed on me.

    hope it helps good luck!

This happened to me and unfortunately the only remedy was to bring it to LMK, where the techs replaced the entire drive since a part had failed.

Also note that another way to eject a mounted CD is to hold down the mouse button while restarting.

uh... i shouldn't have done this but i had too much free time (minus points for being too productive a work) and decided to try some of the suggestions again (pressing eject while booting up; holding mouse key down while booting up and even ran thru some of the suggestions in the apple support forums) and now it has this really awful, loud whirring sound emanating from the drive.

    crap.
