    Default Flickering Clamshell

My wife's 4-year old Tangerine iBook is finally acting up. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced the same problem. The screen flickers from time to time. It's not a uniformed flicker, it's spread out throughout the display. The flickering happens during boot up, so I doubt it's software related.

FYI, this is the very first iBook, a 300MHz with 288MB of RAM and a 20Gb HDD running OS 10.3.3

This problem occurred a long time ago, I even suspected it was cellphone interference. I haven't seen it happen for the past few years.

Any solutions? I hope it's not a logic board problem.

    TIA.

from what i recall of old discussion threads about screen flicker (this was about 5-6 years ago), one cause of screen flicker was a bad power adaptor. try using another adaptor, at least to rule that reason out.

    Default Problem solved!

Actually, it's more like video noise than flickering.

Taking cue from your post, I checked the power adaptor. Actually, I suspected that the fault would be more with the contacts, rather than with the adaptor itself (since it's fairly new). So, I took out my trusty can of WD-40 and sprayed the contacts in the iBook's adaptor socket. Voila! Cure all talaga ang WD-40, problem solved!

    Thanks, Butch.

    And thank you, WD-40!

I've had that before on a chicklet. One of two things. If minor, it's just a loose cable. Since the connector runs through the hinge, it could have gotten loose, or frayed. That's simple to repair.

At worst, your logic board is about to go. Have it checked soon.

Could be the ribbon wire that connects the lcd to the board. Or maybe it's not a real problem since it's almost at close position. I assume it works perfect at regular viewing angle?
