DRU,
of cors, the superdrive..
guys,
since we are in the 'zone', can i change my G3 ibook's combo drive into a superdrive? plus can it be "trayless" like the iBookG4?

depends on what you expect to be burning. the downside of the superdrive is that it burns regular CDs slower than the combo (which is also appreciably cheaper). how many DVDs do you expect to burn? if your work involves burning loads of CDs, go for the combo and save yourself some change.

super drive.
4.7 GB.
save up more CD files.
less clutter.

Funnily, a friend of mine has a major predicament. She has a combo drive and has just realized that she needs (or wants) a super drive. Problem is that, if you change your mind later, it'll cost you 47Thousand to buy *just* the Superdrive.
So... if you're buying your Mac and are planning to keep it for a long time before upgrading again, then I suggst you go for the best you can get right now. :-)

I have lots of photos, MP3s, and videos on my hard drive that accumulate over time. Whenever I need to free up more hard disk space, it's WAY more convenient to offload and backup gigabytes of data to DVD-R blanks than to CD-Rs.
Think of it as the difference between emptying a bathtub using a big bucket as opposed to a "tabo"

Had that same predicament. Got an iBook last February. (combos only for iBook then). After three months of use, I traded it in for a PowerBook with superdrive. I needed it for some video and pictures.
