Applecare for Powerbook - best place to buy?
Might need to buy Applecare for my Powerbook within the month. I bought the unit from the States and now would like to decide on whether to buy it there or here..price difference of about P3k - cheaper in the States.
Question is: would I have any problems claiming warranty service if I buy the Applecare from the States?

no, floyd, if you bought your 'book from the states, you will in fact have an easier time registering your applecare if you also get it from the US or canada, and you shouldn't have a problem getting your machine serviced here as long as you cvan show proof of ownership, like a receipt.
if you're going to get applecarfe in the US, you might as well try ebay--where i got applecare for my tibook for $99--about $250 below list price, and yes, i was able to register it online (it was cheap because it was in french--canada, see?--but all you need is the serial number inside the box.)

Thanks guys. The HK price is very cheap too - around P10k less! Will checkout Ebay.

How can you determine if the applecare being sold in Ebay authentic? Is there any way to check the authenticity? BTW how long does it take for the Card to be delivered upon registration online.

in brief, you can't--that's always the risk you take on ebay; but if you're used to ebay and can get a feel for reading sellers' feedbacks (some of those are faked as well), then you reduce the chances of getting scalped. in this case, i took a risk because the seller's feedback was very high and almost spotless--i tracked some entries at random to make sure the people posting feedback were real people with real transaction records. (also, i was gambling on the likelihood that no one was bidding on the applecare because it was in french; but the seller was in canada, so i put one and one together--a canadian policy is the same as a US policy; i just got lucky.)
you may or may not get that registration card. (i haven't, for my two applecare-covered machines.) but you'll see your registration acknowledged online, as a link on your user or customer page.

Looked through Ebay and it is a bit scary to think that the only asset you are buying is a serial number needed to activate the addtional warranty coverage....what if the number is already used?
