Which AiBook to get?
Hello Muggers,
I'm looking to buy my first Mac portable and I'm pretty much decided on the 12" AlBook. But since my budget is limited, I'm limited to the 1st generation models with the 867Mhz (or whatever was the entry-level speed back then) processor.
I don't mind the slower processor (my "lifestyle" laptop LOL!) or small hard drive (replaceable) or anemic amount of RAM (upgradeable), but is there anything that I should know about the 1st-generation models to make me reconsider and get a newer model instead?
Things like no option for built-in wifi, or maybe USB 1.1 only, or faulty latch, lousy battery life, etc...
Thanks in advance,
Jerry

2 USB 1.1 ports only, jerry but it does have firewire 400.
Check out some other specs, here.
Happy hunting!

Hi Jerry
I got my bro a 12" 867.. i think the biggest problem he has with it is that it tends to really heat up.
They solved this problem with the next revisions of the 12Powerbook.
It's Wifi & bluetooth capable.
But the battery could be a bit worn out already. I t could have problems giving you enough juice for a day's work.
Also check for the rubber feet underneath. I seem to notice a lot of these come off on the 12's.

hi guys! Hope you could help me decide which ibook should I be getting soon. Im torn between getting the 12" and the 14" ibook. the thing is, I'd like everything to be convenient and i really don't know if the size ill be getting matters. I mostly do case work in the office so "easy" typing is my only and greatest concern. which of the two sizes would best suit me? Please help!

I suggest you go for the 12" iBook. The 14" and the 12" both have the same resolution (1024 x 768), so you're not actually going to see more information on the 14" screen. The 12" will be a lot easier to bring around.

I agree with Patrick. I'd take the 12" for better portabilty since the maximum resolution is the same. There are more nice bags to choose from with that size as well.

Hi Norman and welcome to Philmug. How well are your eyes?
I'd recommend the 12" because it is more portable. If easy typing is your concern then the keyboard of both the 12 and 14 are the same size. But depending on your eyes you may have to squint. You can increase the percentage when viewing your documents though. Maybe you should try to visit a showroom and see for yourself. That really helps?

I yearning to get a 12" also, its lighter a bit than the 15" Albook that I am currently using.
Lol at Carlo's avatar, 'wont be surprised if the "hang ten" billboard becomes an avatar one of these days..

thanks guys for the info!!! Actually i really prefer the 12" because of the portability its just that Im having second thoughts but your suggestions were great!!! Now my only problem is im on the waiting list for an ibook!!! The apple center in sm City told me that I have to wait at least 3weeks for the new stocks to arrive. That long??? I can't sleep already in anticipation!

Another thing guys, does the hinges of an ibook breaks or cracks after a long period of time? I had an experience with an acer laptop with its hinges breaking off everytime I open the cover. Its traumatic!!! Now I don't want to experience this again, don't you think so?:P
