Default Facetime & iMessage Activation problem

Hey guys. I just got my new iphone 4 back from HK. Upgraded to iOS5 smoothly. When i tried to activate facetime and iMessage. It's stuck on waiting for activation. Does it usually take 3-4 hours? I've been waiting for 3-4 hours now and still nothing happened. My wifi is fine. My number is indicated and caller ID is shown. I tried the SAM procedure for jailbroken phones but still to no avail. If all else fail, I'd resort to restoring the phone. Maybe you guys can help me? hehe. Thanks!

I didn't have that problem activating iMessage on my 3Gs or FaceTime on my iPad after the iOS5 upgrade. That sounds like an abnormally long time to be waiting for confirmation.

Mine's not jailbroken. But I'm also having the same issue. Even weirder is that I have already activated it before and just toggled the activate button off. Now I'm stuck at "waiting for activation". Did a hard reset which messed all my settings (since my last back-up was before my iOS5 upgrade) but still "waiting for activation". Globe said to just wait as this is an Apple server issue. But it has been days.

Turn FaceTime on in Settings. It will send an sms to the host country where that phone was sold. When activated there will be no Facetime app. To do Facetime you open Contacts and select Facetiime. Make sure you choose correct account whether they registered with a phone number (iPhone) or email (iPod and iPad.)

my facetime just got activated today. yahhhhoooo!!! roughly a week after i got it. My iphone is an factory openline and runs on Globe prepaid. I think it just takes a long time to activate.I remember few day ago I told myself I'm done troubleshooting the facetime and imessage application. I really didn't care anymore if it will work or not. Then today I said lets give it one more troubleshooting but before doing the actual steps I noticed facetime and imessage app is alraedy activated!

    FYI PEEPS:

I tried everything in the net to have it work. Nothing worked! I guess all you need to do is just wait.

I also dont believe that you get international text sms chargers for facetime registration coz all i had left on my credits was around 10pesos for the past 4 days. I checked it and its still 10pesos.

My initial assessment also maybe it also depends on how many contact you have in your phone. When I got my iPhone what i did first was to sync it with my outlook contacts (around 300+). I think it read my contacts first so that it will tell the apple servers how many apple user i have in my list so that when i make a call it will know if that person has facetime or imessage.

leave you activation alone. I think the more you keep on resetting or restoring your iPhone the process takes longer to activate because it goes back to the starting process.

    My two cents :-)

I think i found another solution. This is what i did:

    1. I closed all active applications

    2. Go to Phonebook (Phone>Contacts)

    3. Make Sure Group is set to " All on My iPhone" NOT "All iCloud"

    4. Create a contact and save your own number. (number of the sim card you are using, include +639+++)

    5. Go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars

    6. Set Default Account to "On My iPhone"

    7. Go to My Info and choose the contact you created with your own number

    8. Go to Settings>Phone and make sure that your number is shown with the correct format. (+639+++. If your number is not shown or displayed incorrectly but you cant edit the number, what i did was I used the iPhone 4 of my sister and changed the number of the sim card there. Then i transferred the sim back to my iPhone 4S)

    9. Show My Caller ID set to "YES"

    10. International Assist set to "ON"

    11. Go to Settings>Facetime & Message and Turn Off Facetime and iMessage if the status its turned on. Make sure your Apple ID is logged out too (Facetime and iMessage)

    12. Hard reset iPhone

    13. Once iPhone is turned on, make sure you have a signal and wifi.

    14. Go to Settings>Facetime and turn on Facetime. DONT choose "Use your Apple ID for FaceTime"

    15. Go to Settings>Message and turn on iMessage. Again DONT log in to your apple id.

    16. Hard Reset your iPhone

    17. Leave it as it is. And wait for it to be activated. (Make sure your WiFi connection doesn't get dropped). I watched youtube lang for a few mins then when i checked my FaceTime and iMessage, both are activated already.(My number not Apple ID)

    NOT jailbreaked.

Hope this helps. Mine got activated i think after 30 minutes.

i got mine working following Dethro's steps and the facetime button pops up. But here's another problem whenever i call my ipad and macbook pro using iphone 4 its stuck on "connecting" and if i call my iphone using those 2 devices i can't received any facetime call. The iphone doesn't prompt me to cancel/accept, it doesn't display anything that there's an incoming facetime call, but on my ipad and macbook pro the iphone is ringing. Help!!!
